first_imgThe Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) Executive Committee is meeting on Thursday afternoon to discuss the petitions brought in front of the General Council of the party. The committee has called for a General Council meeting to discuss the motion that is asking party leader Adrian Delia to resign. Meanwhile, two further petitions approving of Delia as party leader had been presented on Wednesday. The Executive Committee has to elect a number of high ranking party officials after the resignations of Mark Anthony Sammut from President of the Executive Committee, David Camilleri from PN Treasurer and Pierre Portelli from Head of Media.Against Delia The petition signed by 200 individuals, calls for a motion in favour of Adrian Delia’s resignation from party leader as it is believed that he should assume political responsibility following the dire results during the EP election in May 2019.The other two petitions insist on collective accountability.Adrian Delia said that the Executive Committee has the freedom to decide on the petitions and added that he would like to discuss changes in the party’s statute once this “uncertainty” is over.Pro Delia The two petitions in favour of Delia remaining as leader of the party had been presented on Wednesday. One has 4,333 signatures from party members whilst the other has been signed by 530 members of the General Council. PN members that signed the petition are saying that Delia was elected democratically and quoted the statute where it says that the General Council is the party’s highest organ with power to change other party organs’ decisions.
