first_imgIs the arrest of former Commonwealth Games Organising Secretary Suresh Kalmadi enough to purge the government of the CWG scam taint?The Shunglu committee, appointed to probe the irregularities in the 2010 Games, had not just faulted Kalmadi, but gone well beyond in fixing responsibility for the CWG scam.Apart from Kalmadi, the panel had faulted Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for her poor oversight of various Games related projects. The report also named Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna for losses totalling Rs 280 crore.Senior government officials including PWD Principal Secretary K.K. Sharma, NDMC chairman Parimal Rai and DDA vice-chairman Ashok Kumar were also named for alleged high valuation and delays in Games projects.The high-level committee estimated Rs 900 crore as the cost of delay by certain government departments in implementing infrastructure-related projects in the city.It also said that the Sports Ministry, under the then minister M.S. Gill, did not possess authority to restrain entities which overstated costs.The report also recommended appropriate action against Project Developer Emaar MGF for knowingly supplying incorrect information and for its various acts of omission and commission.last_img
