first_imgDonegal Boys Championship 2014The annual Donegal Boys Championship was held in Dunfanaghy Golf Club on Saturday 19th July. After a long absence, the Donegal Boys was reignited last year by Dunfanaghy’s resident PGA professional Seamus Mc Monagle. The championship was kindly sponsored by Mick McGinley of Sigma Wireless. Young hopefuls came from far and wide to compete in the championship, resulting in an exceptionally high standard of golf. Last year’s champion Cian McGarvey (Cloughaneely) was beaten on break of tie for the overall championship by Jack Patton (Letterkenny). Both players finished with gross scores of 72. Jack’s back nine total of one under par was helped with an eagle on the tenth hole to secure the prestigious title. The under 16 category was very much a family affair, as brothers James and Niall McCormick (Dunfanaghy) battled all the way to the final hole for the title. At the end, Niall won on break of tie from James, both with gross scores of 79.The under 14 category was won by Paul Doherty (Cloughaneely) on break of tie from Cian Harkin (Letterkenny) with excellent gross scores of 76. It was a wonderful victory for Paul, as Cian was favoured by many for the title. The under twelve category was won by Jamie O’Doherty (Gweedore), the under 10 category won by James Sweeney (Dunfanaghy), the under 9 category won by Rory Kelly (Dunfanaghy) and the under 8 category won by Scott Gray (Dunfanaghy). Junior golf in Donegal is on the rise thanks to the hard work of Dunfanaghy’s Seamus Mc Monagle. Seamus’ junior coaching academy is rising from strength to strength, this was made evident this year when five of Seamus’ students qualified for the World Boy’s Final in Scotland. Junior golf in Donegal is very much in safe hands.During the presentation, Seamus thanked Mick McGinley for this kind sponsorship and Dunfanaghy Golf Club for hosting the championship. Organising has already began for the 2015 championship, which will hopefully be even bigger!Under 81st Scott Gray 85Under 91st Rory Kelly 81 Under 106th Johnny Lambe 815th Eoin Bonar 664th Tiernan Doherty 63 BOT 2nd Padraig Doherty 531st James Sweeney 51Under 126th Sean Doherty 555th Luke Kelly 544th Carlos O’Reilly 533rd Aidan Walsh 53 BOT2nd Conor Hanna 491st Jamie O’DohertyUnder 14Gross Nett3rd DJ McLaughlin 83 3rd Ryan Griffin 652nd Cian Harkin 76 2nd Eoin Flannagan 65 BOT1st Paul Doherty 3rd Ronan Gallagher 60Under 16Gross Nett3rd Charles Gallen 85 3rd Evan Dunleavey 752nd James McCormick 79 2nd Rourke Griffin 671st Niall McCormick 79 3rd Max McGreevey 64Under 18Gross Nett3rd Christopher Duffy 72 3rd Seosamh Gallagher 742nd Cian McGarvey 72 BOT 2nd Antoin McConville 741st Jack Patton 72 BOT 3rd Odhran Davis 71GOLF NEWS: JACK PATTON WINS THE DONEGAL BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP IN DUNFANAGHY was last modified: July 22nd, 2014 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:donegalgolfNoticesSportlast_img
